An effective reign is one that can unite the people, and capable of maintaining peace and security of the country. This was among the matters touched in today special Friday Sermon in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee celebration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's Accession to the Throne. Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, delivered the Special Friday Sermon at Jame' 'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kampung Kiarong.
The Sermon also highlighted that an effective reign is one which can fulfil the needs of the citizens and residents and allow them to enjoy a fair and prosperous life. Special for Brunei is the fact that its effective and successful reign is the result of staying close to religion. According to the sermon, after over 600 years since the arrival of Islam, Brunei continues to maintain a monarchical system based on the teachings of Islam, where Islam has been made as the nation's official religion according to the constitution during its modern day. With its policies and practises that uphold the religion and its syiar, Brunei has been blessed by Allah Subhanahu Wataala with peace for the country and happiness for its people.
The sermon also touched on how the government, led by its sovereign monarch, has planned for and implemented a number of national development programmes which aim to ensure the welfare and well-being of its citizens and residents. During Brunei's two modern eras, which are under His Majesty's current rule and His Majesty's late father, Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien's rule, Brunei has been developed comprehensively with development even reaching the rural areas. During those periods, the people have been able to enjoy the fruits of development in the fields of education, medical and health, housing as well as social and community programmes which have become the catalysts for the progress of the people and the country.
