The Istiadat Berjaga-jaga or the Nightly Vigil ceremony in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's Accession to the Throne began last night and will continue every night until the 7th of this month.
The Nightly Vigil is held for men and women. Present at the women's side were Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna binti Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Umi Kalthum Al-Islam binti Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien. Also present were the wives of Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria, Cabinet Ministers, Pengiran-Pengiran Peranakan, Pehin-Pehin Manteri and senior government officers. The Malam Berjaga-jaga provides opportunity for those who attended the ceremony to mingle and strengthen relations as well as exchange ideas.
At the men's side, the Istiadat Berjaga-jaga took place in the presence of Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar. Also present were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria, Cabinet Ministers, Pengiran-Pengiran Peranakan, Pehin-Pehin Manteri and senior government officers. The Nightly Vigil is enlivened with a dikir performance. The religious activity is not only to fill and further enliven the nightly atmosphere of the Golden Jubilee celebration but also to seek blessings from Allah the Almighty. The Doa selamat was read by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.
